Áras Uí Chonghaile is a visitor centre dedicated to telling the story of James Connolly.
Best known for his role in the 1916 Easter Rising, Connolly was also a leading Trade Unionist, Socialist and Republican.
The James Connolly Experience tour through our interactive exhibition tells the story of his life, from his birth in Edinburgh, to meeting his wife Lily in Dublin, to travelling across the United States spreading the word of trade unionism.
As well as our exhibition, we also hold an exclusive Historic Collection, on loan from Pat O’Hagan, which is a unique insight into those times and presents a display of original art and artefacts unavailable anywhere else in the world. This collection of Irish memorabilia, artefacts and artwork that is must see for everyone who has an interest in our past.


Leabharlann Uí Chonghaile, the Connolly Library, is located on the first floor of Áras Uí Chonghaile and boasts a unique and profound collection of writings by and about James Connolly.
The library offers a quiet, reflective and unique space for researchers, academics and those who seek to grow and develop their understanding of James Connolly, a man of remarkable ideas and writings.
The Centre also hosts a modern, fully furnished event space complete with Wifi, drop-down projector screen and a balcony, which offers commanding and picturesque views of the Belfast Hills and across the city as far as the Shipyards and Docks where Connolly was once based. On-site catering is also available.

This dynamic trail is supported by innovate Augmented Reality making it the first of its kind in Belfast.
The trail takes you on a tour of the city, stopping at some of the most historically significant sites associated with James Connolly while exploring Belfast’s political, industrial, feminist and working class history and the cities role in shaping Ireland for the next 100 years.
