LEABHARLANN UÍ CHONGHAILE | CONNOLLY LIBRARY
The first floor of Áras Uí Chonghaile boasts Leabharlann Uí Chonghaile, the Connolly Library is a comprehensive collection of books written by, influenced by or focussed on the life, era and politics of the greatest socialist thinker and intellectual that Ireland has seen in the past 120 years – James Connolly.
Compiled in partnership with the renowned ‘Kenny’s Bookshop’ in Galway, since opening we have been able to augment our collection and all that the library offers. Thanks to the generosity of local collectors who have gifted various books of interest to us, including some volumes from the libraries in the H-Blocks, our library offers an insight into the history of Ireland, Trade Unionism and Socialism across the world.
As our library grew, we installed an electronic catalogue, allowing visitors to quickly browse the collection. This is a valuable resource for those studying and researching, seeking to learn more about the life and politics of Connolly and is regularly accessed by university and college students from Belfast and further afield.
With a unique atmosphere, Leabharlann Uí Chonghaile is the perfect location to sit back, relax and read about a man of remarkable ideas and writings – James Connolly.
